It has much in common both with Rune Factory 1 and Rune Factory 2 but will delight fans of the series with surprising new aspects that have been added to the game. Rune Factory 3 is the third Rune Factory game made for the DS platform. In fact, it quickly developed into a series that, while sharing the fundamental philosophy of life with Harvest Moon, was unique. Some reviewers of the game referred to it as 'Harvest Moon with a sword'. On top of that there is an advanced random map generator for Skirmish mode, offering six distinct map types and four mission types. 4 additional single player scenarios are available and another 10 scenarios carefully designed for a balanced Multiplayer experience. The king of wargames is backEasy to play and at the same time extremely deep, its fine-tuned turn-based gameplay style means that it’s the quality of your decisions, not the speed of clicking, which will determine the outcome of your battles. Not a lot of nitty-gritty detail, but lots of fast play and great WWII feel.Panzer Corps 2 is the ultimate Second World War strategy game!Įnjoy the time-proven gameplay formula which has been appreciated by millions of players over the years, brought to a whole new level of refinement up to the latest technical standards. Jumping up the ladder in terms of scale is Battlefront’s Strategic Command, which is the game Axis and Allies should have been. But they do have demos, so checking them out is free. These are the Combat Command II games, Danger Forward and Desert Rats. Shrapnel also has a couple of grand tactical wargames that always reminded me of Panzer General for some reason, but no campaigns. It also sounds like you missed 101: The Airborne Invasion of Normandy a few years back, which was very tasty and supposedly has a sequel due any quarter now (for the last three years) from Shrapnel. And his HPS games don’t all have campaigns, but some of the Squad battles games do. No demos, but he really hasn’t changed his interface since the East Front / West Front /Rising Sun games he did for Talonsoft, which is a blessing or a curse depending on how you like it. Have you looked at Rites of War, the Warhammer Panzer General game? I think it was on the People’s General engine.įor something less gamey than Korsun Pocket, have you looked at the John Tiller games from HPS? He has operational level (Panzer Campaigns and Modern Campaigns) and tactical (Squad Battles, also covering both WWII & modern) series, as well as 19th C and naval stuff. Recent games which I’ve played are CM:BB which didn’t quite fit the bill, and Korsun Pocket, which was too hellishly gamey for me (optimizing stacks to get odds shifts… bleah. The installer for each game is under 65mb.Īnd I’ve already played most of the other games in the Panzer General series, so I don’t need the suggestion to play Panzer General 2. The upside is they have much better OOBs, are more stable and less buggy, and have much better single player mechanics, especially the random battles and campaigns. The downside is that they are DOS games (with a Windows installer) but they run pretty seamlessly on any Win 98 or ME machine, and XP as long as you don’t mind tweaking your settings (mouse and sound, mostly, occasionally video). They were the original outfit that SSI gave the source code to, and they have two games, one WWII (SPWW2) and one modern (SBMBT). I like the Steel Panthers Camo Group games better. It does have Mega-Campaigns for sale, which you may remember Novastar had developedĪs add-ons for SP1 - really big dynamic campaigns. It is also buggier, has worse AI, and less accurate order of battle info. Matrix went for bells and whistles - has options to monitor (and control) your oportunity fire, play online in real time (still turn based, but you can watch the other guy play his turn), set forces and ammo to randomly pre-depleted, etc. As such, it’s easier to get running on WinXP or Win2000 machine. Matrix Games has Steel Panthers It’s based on the Win-native code for the online multiplayer version of SP3 that SSI put into the Steel Panthers Arsenal box. I was in both groups, here are my biased thumbnail opinions. There are various other little mod groups, but only two got the source code from SSI and therefore have anything beyond new data files. There are two big groups with Steel Panthers derived games. I should have mentioned that I’ve played AW and Steel Panthers but maybe I’ll go check out the new enhancements to Steel Panthers. |
